Electricity And Magnetism By B Ghosh Rar (pdf) Book Full ##BEST## Torrent

This book covers a topic that is not only indispensable to modern technology, but also fascinating in itself. It is a wonderful introduction that will explain the basic concepts of electricity and magnetism, and show how it works. It would not be an exaggeration to say that we live in an electric world. You can't make a call, access the internet or turn on your TV without drawing electricity from somewhere. In other words, electricity powers our modern world - from lighting homes to running industrial machinery. Thanks to this ubiquitous commodity, mankind has been able to enjoy the many benefits of advances in science and technology over the last few centuries. Despite the importance of electricity, it is invisible to all of us most of the time. Electricity can't be seen or touched, but its effects are felt every day.For most people, the concept of electricity is quite difficult to grasp because they observe it only indirectly - in light bulbs, computer innards, and powering up mobile gadgets like smartphones. It is therefore rather surprising that electricity was not actually 'discovered' in ancient times when people were fascinated by things like lightning and magnets. The ancient Greeks had no idea what caused lightning (a phenomenon that appears in the Iliad), nor did they know how to make a magnet (the first record comes from Pliny the Elder who died in AD 79). It was not until the 19th century that physicists began to understand how electricity and magnetism are related to each other. After centuries of slow progress, it took just 50 years after The Origin of Species was published in 1859 for the complete picture of electricity and magnetism to fall into place. This story is one of sheer brilliance, frustration, teamwork and personal connections. But above all it is an evidence-based account of how human ingenuity works when we try to make sense of nature. The main character in this story is James Clerk Maxwell (1831–1879), a shy and awkward young man who grew up in a big house with his parents and three sisters in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was a brilliant mathematical prodigy who proved a revolutionary theory in the early 1800s. Maxwell started his career in the government service, but was soon caught up in a duel with fellow academic William Thomson (later Lord Kelvin) over 'ether' - the hypothetical medium that supposedly permeated all space and transmitted electromagnetic waves to produce electricity and magnetism. The two men had been close friends at university but could not settle their differences. The cause of the feud was Maxwell's discovery of electromagnetic waves, or Hertzian waves - a phenomenon that Thomson found difficult to believe. His criticism of Maxwell's theory led to a demand from the British government for a duel between both men in 1873. Maxwell was only 34 years old at the time, but he emerged victorious after shooting his opponent in the arm. The wound eventually led to an infection that killed Maxwell four years later. Maxwell had started working on electricity and magnetism while still at school in Edinburgh, and his greatest achievement was to lay the foundation of modern physics by unifying two apparently unrelated concepts into a single theory. He did this by pushing forward mathematical analysis to explain the physical world. For example, he represented an electric current as a series of small particles flowing through a wire, and showed that electromagnetic waves travel at a constant speed - the speed of light.
